I had the Xbox app on my One S and can see my JF server and log in but trying to select any category and the app just crashed to the Xbox dashboard. Is this app dead?

The Xbox app has been dead for a while, is my understanding. You could probably continue to use it if you downgraded your server version, but that is not ideal, obviously, since most other clients require newer server versions.

Looking for a dead simple option to share my server with someone remotely and be able to jointly watch and chat. Haven't seen any other system, save for a PC running Windows, that can be this simple.

Chromebook? Linux PC? Discord can run in a browser and they have a Linux desktop app.

A phone? Voice chat should run in the background while watching (I could be wrong, never tried).

All are options just adds complication. Going through Xbox you have chat easily setup and operating a (working) app all in one place, one controller, one system connected to a TV. Can have Xbox Live games as well but don't actually need Gold to just use chat and JF. But if development has died then I'll look for an alternative.

Seems to have commits as of a week ago, and https://github.com/jellyfin/jellyfin-uwp/issues/39 seems to indicate someone attempting to get a fixed version published to Microsoft. Is it really dead?

The OG UWP dev left the project entirely last month. Looking at the names, looks like the recent actual code commits are from relatively fresh blood. They made a commit in 2022, but appear to be starting back up.

Since update to 10.9.x server, kid had issues with the UWp Xbox App, I made him access the server via Xbox Edge browser, bookmark Jellyfin Url and save his password for his profile.

He told me that his experience via Edge was better than with the previously used App.

    Worth trying !
