still no sound...
at this point I'm worried my laptop is broken. But since I still get sounds like normal from my browser that shouldn't be the case no?

Your laptop is not broken.
My last suggestion is to reinstall your soundcard drivers. If that still doesn't work, it is likely a client bug. Submit an issue at the JMP with as much info as you can provide.
