Can we just get your other solution merged? Maybe reapply your patch to the latest code?

That patch(script) and the submitted fix do completely different things. If you want to apply the fix for yourself. First, check if you can build the client yourself. Everything you need to do so is in the readme here. Once built, can you install it and get it working? If you can do that then you can easily apply the fix.

I don't want to install python. Has this PR been merged yet? What is the hold up? The problem still exists for me.
