Ok thanks making it clearer on JMP, not much I can do then, I did uninstall the driver but it made no difference and no newer drivers.

I have tried it using my gfx card and still get the same results.

After I get my NAS I might use my laptop as the jellyfin server. How good is the intel 6305?

Should be fine. Its a Tigerlake CPU so it should have a pretty capable iGPU with Quick Sync.

Thanks thats great, I don't see why I'm having issues I have used a older driver but still getting the same problem playing VC1.

That's probably what I will do then use my laptop for the Jellyfin server, I will probably get a NUC eventually.

So what Hardware decoding boxes do I tick for the Intel 6305

It could be a long running driver bug. Potentially pre-dating when Tigerlake was released. Hard to say. VC1 is an old codec that doesn't get much use these days so it may have slipped unnoticed for a long time.

This wikipedia table is what I use most of the time.

This one if I need a bit more detail.

For Tigerlake, you can check every box for decoding. Except for VC1, apparently.

Cheers I shall have to go through my films as I'm sure I have a handful of VC1.

looking at this website it does say VC1 Decode.

As I'm trying to learn as much as I can is there a way to tell when JFMP is software decoding on the client side?

I presume that VLC can't software decode and that it relies on the server side to do it?

VLC can software decode. When used with Jellyfin, either with DLNA or by providing a "download" link or as an external player in Android, it will move heaven and earth to try to play the video somehow someway. We do not support transcoding with external players, regardless.

Thanks for that I was actually talking about JMP is there a way to see when it's software decoding?

Agree on VLC it's probably the best player out there to get anything playing.

You'd have to look at the JMP logs, C:\Users\yourUser\appdata\local\jellyfinmediaplayer\log, IIRC. I don't recall seeing anything in the UI that would tell you that. You could also look in Task Manager. Look at the GPU decode usage or CPU usage.
