Can you backup your current data, then make a new blank server to see if the new server accepts new media?

I will see what happens with that this coming weekend.

I tried a number of things, fully removing my current install (with backup), installing up to the latest JF, nothing seemed to work. Not adding more media locations but actually getting JF running again. Remove, delete, empty, reboot, install, copy, start, nothing, rinse, repeat.

Got back to a working 10.9.3 that has all my current sources and contains all my current library. That is where I am going to sit for awhile. Need to take a break from all this for a bit, come back with refreshed enthusiasm at a later time. Hoping to begin my main server build in the near future anyways.

Still can't get the JF Media player to see the library for some reason. Asked in another thread about that but got no response.

Also, and this is a note for my future self, I was able to edit the options.xml file in the JF Data root folder for a library to add anohter (network share) source while the server was stopped, then started the server, scanned that pibrary and all the new source media was easily added. Again 10.9.3

Reply to past self. Nope, didn't work. Migrated my server to a stand-alone machine and now can only add 1 network location for media despite all locations worked just fine in the prior set-up (and a straight copy-over migration failed too many times) so now stuck wonderung why I can't add media to my media server.

Well that's enough head banging for one day. Can't get JF to read network shares for the vast majority of my media, can't get ports 80 and 443 open on the new server. Funny this thread is from a year ago. Time flies when you are pulling your hair out.

RE: New Media Source Won't Scan - KodiUser1138 - 2025-09-06

So from all my googling and reading I'm still left bewildered but I think this may be a user permisisons issue? So how do I correct this? I have gone to the Jellyfin service and change the user to make sure it is me, who has full network access. But still nothing.

I can't even add a network shared folder mounted to the local system as a drive letter. That letter just doesn't show up in Jellyfin.

I'm stuck at the point of having no ability to add any sort of network location to my rebuilt server. Frustrating.

Thank the Maker, I think I figured it out. So to my future self, this seemed to be the solution.

Quote:Jellyfin can't acces Windows network share folders.

1. On Windows Services.
2. Find "Jellyfin Server" service.
3. Right Click on the service and go to "Properties".
4. Switch to "Log On" tab. Make sure "This account..." is selected and press "Browse".
5. Find the account with full network credentials by typing the username and click "Check names".
6. Select it and press OK. Hit Appy, then OK
7. Restart service.

I think I'm back!
