Storage Suggestions - ZanethMedia - 2025-04-19 Hey all! New to the forums here, very excited to start building my digital movie collection in Jellyfin. I can't figure out what direction to take regarding storage (even after using Microsoft Copilot and scouting the forums here). I'm thinking that it might be best to get a couple of NVME enclosures and drives for those instead of a full NAS; dollar for dollar, it looks like it costs less for faster storage. Looking to upgrade my current build to handle running Jellyfin while simultaneously running either light video editing or gaming (which might be silly, please tell me if I'm delusional, but I'm pretty confident it's feasible with this hardware). Here are the specs for both the current and the potential upgraded builds: "Roxanne" (Current 4/2025) PCPartPicker Part List: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/ZBR8mC CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 3950X 3.5 GHz 16-Core Processor CPU Cooler: be quiet! As for storage, the Fractal Define 7 can be packed with hard drives. I wouldn't bother with an external enclosure or a NAS. You would use a NAS if you have more than one server that all need access to the same storage pool. Hard drives are still cheaper per GB and are more than fast enough for media storage for Jellyfin. |
