    Hey all!

New to the forums here, very excited to start building my digital movie collection in Jellyfin.

I can't figure out what direction to take regarding storage (even after using Microsoft Copilot and scouting the forums here). I'm thinking that it might be best to get a couple of NVME enclosures and drives for those instead of a full NAS; dollar for dollar, it looks like it costs less for faster storage.

Looking to upgrade my current build to handle running Jellyfin while simultaneously running either light video editing or gaming (which might be silly, please tell me if I'm delusional, but I'm pretty confident it's feasible with this hardware).

Here are the specs for both the current and the potential upgraded builds:

As long as your video editing doesn't need the extra RAM, 32GB should be enough for gaming and Jellyfin.

As for storage, the Fractal Define 7 can be packed with hard drives. I wouldn't bother with an external enclosure or a NAS. You would use a NAS if you have more than one server that all need access to the same storage pool.

Hard drives are still cheaper per GB and are more than fast enough for media storage for Jellyfin.
    Jellyfin 10.10.7 (Docker)
    Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS w/HWE
    Intel i3 12100
    Intel Arc A380
    OS drive - SK Hynix P41 1TB
    Storage
4x WD Red Pro 6TB CMR in RAIDZ1
