Cannot connect to Jellyfin remotely after router reset - AlternateWitness - 2023-11-08

Hi, I want to be able to access Jellyfin outside of my network, and I have been able to. I have a DNS, and use Caddy to map it to the correct port. I recently needed to factory reset my router, and since then I have been unable to connect to Jellyfin from any device outside of my network. I opened the ports in my router settings, my DNS is up and working, I have the correct network settings in Jellyfin, and I even checked my Caddy file, and I'm just confused as to what I should do.

I have a Verizon router hooked up to a mesh system, and the strangest thing happens. When I put in my external IP address, or the DNS I'm using on my server computer, it redirects me to my router's settings. Not the router of the mesh system I'm connected to, but my Verizon router. Could that be blocking connections? I opened ports on that router too, and even tried changing ports, but no matter what port I map it to it will always direct me to my router settings when trying to connect to it on my server computer. I haven't been desperate enough to try connecting to my DNS on my server computer before, so I don't know if this would have happened after the reset, so is that normal? How can I fix it?

Turn off remote access for your router. Its a security risk and not necessary for most people.

When you change the port for your proxy, are you specifying that when you connect? https://WANIP:newport

Sorry I just saw this, I didn't get an email notification this time. This is still driving me nuts I've been trying to get this working during all of my free time for 2 days now.

For my proxy I use localhost:<port number>
It is hosted on my server computer, so it should be the correct local ip if that's what you're asking. When port forwarding I forward the ports for Jellyfin and the proxy I have setup.

It's been a while since I had Verizon FIOS. I recall I had to put the Verizon router in bridge mode to use my own router. Is that what is happening here?

Ya I believe it was on bridge mode before, but not after the factory reset. I don’t own the router though, my roommate does, and they reset it because they said it wasn’t working properly. If that’s why I have to do I guess I’ll need to try and convince them to put it on bridge mode for their mesh system and that it won’t “break” the router again.

Now that I think about it more that’s the only difference I can think of after the reset, although I almost could have sworn I had it working before I put the router in bridge mode. Thanks, I’ll look into that.
