Slow streaming speed - Hmgvhmgvhmgv - 2023-07-09

Hello,
Im new to jellyfin and I was wondering wether its normal, that i only can remote Stream in 720p 4mb/s and not more. My Setup is the following:

1. Server:
  • Wired, Gigabit
  • Desktop PC
  • 5600x, 6900xt, 16gb RAM
  • Hardware acceleration enabled (AMD amf, H264, HEVC, AV1, HEVC 10bit)
  • Tone mapping enabled

2. Client:
  • Tab S8 Ultra
  • Jellyfin App
  • Integrated Media Player

3. Network
  • for Server: 600mbs down, 50mbs up
  • Client: 200mbs down
  • VPN to Home Network where the Server is (directly from AVM Fritz Box)

4. Media
  • Everything is 4k HDR with 60-90mbps

From my understanding my server upload speed is the bottleneck, but i still schould be able to remotly play at 1080p 10-20mbs after transcoding right? I dont really know If i am wrong or something in the Setup ist wrong.

Well to exclude the obvious, do you have any Bandwidth limitation set on your server?

No, i haven't Set any bandwith limitations

When you are transcoding, what does the CPU/GPU/disk usage look like?

What is your storage setup like? Both for the OS and for your library.

Everything at around 10-15 %, but IT also Happens with direct play

What OS is the server running?

Can you upload both the Jellyfin and ffmpeg logs to pastebin and link it here?

I am facing the exact same issue, it's literally impossible playback any video, without it stuttering every 5-10 secs. I'm running it on a Windows machine, GPU NVidia 1050, 16 GB ram, Intel® Core™ i7-7700HQ CPU, and jellyfin-ffmpeg. Files are over an SMB, transcoding off. Used Findroid, the official app (with the integrated player) but to no avail. Accessing outside the home network, with the help of tail scale funnel.

Attached logs - https://pastebin.com/GmzTkPrs

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Your PC is way more than capable of directplay.  Which leads me to believe this is caused by network issues or a client side problem.  Having said that, the log is kind of weird. Your client is spending less than 1 second on each episode before moving on to the next.  Then it circles back and starts playing the first episode?

Can you tell us more about what you were doing on the CLIENT side?  What was your network access type (cellular, WiFi, remote PC)?  What did the client display during this?

This looks like a client side bug, IMO.
