Jellyfin Server on Intel Core i3 3220 - claireoni - 2023-11-30

hey all!
im new to all this and i wanna host a jellyfin server for my family, i had a old lenovo thinkcentre lying around that i thought i could use.

it has around 16gb of ram, i have a spare 250gb ssd and 3tb hard drive i can use.
if need be, i can transcode everything beforehand (i think thats how it works lol)

cheers!

Transcoding on a processor that old would not be great, but if keep your content in formats that can be played directly then it will probably be okay.

purely opinion; i dont think you're going to have a good experience with this due to dropped support

but i could be wrong, it happens

Echoing thornbill. Definitely recommend pre-transcoding to the following format/codecs: H264 main profile video, AAC stereo audio, burned in subtitles or external SRT files, MP4 container. That will ensure maximum compatibility on a reasonably recent playback device.
