    hey all!
im new to all this and i wanna host a jellyfin server for my family, i had a old lenovo thinkcentre lying around that i thought i could use.

it has around 16gb of ram, i have a spare 250gb ssd and 3tb hard drive i can use.
if need be, i can transcode everything beforehand (i think thats how it works lol)

    cheers!

Transcoding on a processor that old would not be great, but if keep your content in formats that can be played directly then it will probably be okay.

Echoing thornbill. Definitely recommend pre-transcoding to the following format/codecs: H264 main profile video, AAC stereo audio, burned in subtitles or external SRT files, MP4 container. That will ensure maximum compatibility on a reasonably recent playback device.
    Jellyfin 10.10.7 (Docker)
    Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS w/HWE
    Intel i3 12100
    Intel Arc A380
    OS drive - SK Hynix P41 1TB
    Storage
4x WD Red Pro 6TB CMR in RAIDZ1
