Inconsistent Media Availability with Proper Permissions - squevy - 2024-04-05

Hello!
I am new to media servers and so far I've been enjoying figuring out/setting up Jellyfin.

I've noticed that my media will initially show in my Jellyfin library after it begins downloading. Once I restart Jellyfin or re-scan my library, the media no longer shows on Jellyfin; it still shows in my PC media library. Other movies within the same folder are showing up, so I figured it might be the file name. Tried changing that and the media still doesn't re-appear. Deleted and re-downloaded the media files but nothing changed.

I've confirmed the permissions for the Movies folder and individual movies (drwxr-xr-x). I've mounted a 2TB SSD and the structure to get to an individual movie is /media/ssd/Movies/"genre"/"movie folder"/"movie files".

I attached a pic of the system info.
Jellyfin 10.8.13.0

I know I'm missing something but I'm not sure what! Any help is appreciated. null

What folder is your library pointed at? "Movies" or "genre"? If it is pointed at "Movies" then that is a problem, possibly THE problem. Nesting your media is not supported.

Hey thank you so much for your response.

I wasn't exactly sure what was considered nesting.
Yes, my Movie library is pointed at /media/ssd/Movies

Should I be pointing it instead to each individual genre within Movies?
/media/ssd/Movies/Action for example?

Why do some movies within the same genre folder show up and others do not?
Thanks for the help!

Edit: Also changing it to point to each genre folder did cause the movies to show up! Thaaaaank you!

Yeah. You would need to point the library at

/media/ssd/Movies/Action

And so on for each genre. The way you currently have it is considered "nesting" since the folder with the movie file in it is an additional layer below where the library root is.
