Android App Webview crash - heiyos - 2023-08-09

The app crashes on all my Android devices. It just closes right away and I'll get a popup that my WebView version is causing the app to crash.

Details about the setup:
Jellyfin server:
Version: 10.8.10
Operating System: Linux (Unraid docker install linuxserver repo)
Architecture: X64

Android Info:
Jellyfin version: Latest version from play store (v2.5.0)
Android System WebView: v115.0.5790.166
Android 13 on Samsung S22Ultra

I tried the beta version of both the Jellyfin and WebView and that doesn't seem to resolve the issue. I am seeing the same behaviour on 2 of my other android tablet. The android TV version of the app seems to be working fine on my Chromecast with Google TV

Isn't 2.5.2 the latest android version?

Try clearing the cache/storage for the jellyfin app on your phone.

RE: Android App Webview crash - heiyos - 2023-08-09

Oh, I made a mistake. I do have 2.5.2 installed on my phone.
Clearing the data on for the app allows me to go to the server select screen, but it then crashes after I enter my server's URL.

I did notice that the app works fine if I use the local IP, but it crashes if I try to connect using my personal domain. Google did recently add my domain as unsafe, not sure if that is what's causing the app to crash.

RE: Android App Webview crash - TheDreadPirate - 2023-08-09

That is probably the problem. If I recall correctly, Android uses Google DNS by default. If you change the system wide DNS to something else, like cloudflare, what happens?

RE: Android App Webview crash - heiyos - 2023-08-09

I changed my DNS to use cloudflare and the app still crashes. I guess the Webview just stops and the app crashes?

Your domain being flagged as suspicious is probably shared with other services. Not sure how to get around that other than to get a new domain.
