unable to play Live TV M3U for more than 10 minutes - Overbite99744123 - 2024-08-20

Hello, So as the title says i am unable to play Live TV M3U through Live tv for more than 10 minutes. Most of the streams I am using work but they will just close and take me back to the guide from 3 - 10 minutes of playing and that depends on the client. The Web Client works the best and i will be able to watch the longest there before I have issues, Android client is also pretty solid everything starts but will kick out after some time. Fire tv mostly works but the Client will get Client errors and it will crash usually around the 5 min mark. Roku Tv Almost all the clients wont start and crashes immediately. Although If I force transcoding they will sometimes work, Pretty random if it works or not. Everything i use is on the latest version including the server and all clients I have tried this with.

Things I Have tried already, Changing the Source of the IPTV to open sources found online. (VLC Plays mine and the others I tested without issue for hours) Changing Auto-Loop Live stream, on or off has no affect. Completely disabled transcoding and worked my way back on from there trying a ton of different settings. (Disabling transcoding makes more streams not play), Set streaming bitrate limits. Tried deleting my device from the devices page and signed back in. Tried force transcoding of remote media in user settings,  plus Prefer fMP4 on or off no change. Tried creating new users. I tried rolling back my server as far as I could go, no change. Removed / Disabled plugins. I setup a JF server from scratch on a new machine(Different hardware, Not a VM) and It was having the same issue. I removed IIS from the picture and the issue still happens on local network only.

I have been using jellyfin for almost 2 years now and The stored media I have works perfectly and even transcodes beautify i rarely have issues with that aspect its only the Live TV portion I just cant seem to get it working. As far as I can remember its never worked perfectly but it wouldn't close like this. I have been trying to fix this for a week or so I am truly at a loss at this point and I am really hoping that someone can recommend a work around or help me figure out the issue with the logs.

Specs
Windows 10 VM - Under Truenas
16c AMD
12gb Ram
120gb SSD for JF Server files with 5TB HDD for media
RTX 3050
700Mbps up and down

Reverse Proxy with IIS URL rewrite

I Greatly appreciate any help!!

It looks like you are watching live TV remotely? The only thing I see is this.

Code:
[2024-08-15 18:03:52.321 -04:00] [WRN] [18] Emby.Server.Implementations.HttpServer.WebSocketConnection: WS "Redacted IP" error receiving data: "The remote party closed the WebSocket connection without completing the close handshake."

[2024-08-15 18:03:52.346 -04:00] [INF] [18] Jellyfin.LiveTv.TunerHosts.M3UTunerHost: Closing "LiveStream"

Looks like you are briefly losing connection or something.

Hello Thank you for taking the time to look into my issue.
Yea in this case it is a remote site that is being requested. With that said I can use the same stream in VLC without issues on my JF Host. These specific logs are from when my 4k fire stick was connecting to the instance and has issues. Although I see these same logs with every device as its has issues. Thats about all I see in the logs is that its like loosing connection like this but it must only happen with Live TV as I have no other issues. As far as I can tell everything is pretty solid so I cant track down why its disconnecting like this.

warm regards,

Try enabling "Auto-loop live streams".

Thanks for the suggestion. I did test this and it makes the streams crash faster on all clients. I will do some testing with a stream buffer and see if I can get it to work for more than a few minutes.

Thanks,

Okay so after a dreadful amount of testing I have come up with a solution to my issue.
I tried various HTTP proxies such as xteve, threadfin and HLS proxy. All are about the same and no matter how much tinkering or what buffer you use the issue was the same for me(Some setting the buffer to 1mb with VLC was decent but didnt resolve the issue). Would play for about 5-10 minutes and stop playing. The logs from these services show no issues from the live stream connection its self. Jellyfin still had the same logs that show the client is just disconnecting and nothing more. I started to play with differnt server versions because if I have this issue on every client its just a server issue. I found that jellyfin 10.8.13 server plays Live tv very well without having these hiccups. However the jellyfin apps on firetv and other clients say that the server is too old to add it and wont let you connect. You can download a browser on these devices (Fire TV has amazon Silk) you can connect to your instance and watch live tv that way without issues.

I really hope this helps someone out there who is having a similar issue I was. I know this solution isn't great but it works for me.
