I had some issues setting it up on android, it appears that the connection to the host device is lost a bunch of times. I tried with 3 phones and one tablet. I know that my router is absolute dogshit, it comes from my ISP and I cannot even log into it locally, only via their website (altibox). I have 500 Mbps both up and down, and the internet is steady, so I'm not sure if that matters? I had issues getting more than a few devices to connect at the same time, when the third device got connected, another would get booted, though I'm not sure if that's just by chance. Staying on only one device, I got connected and disconnected several times, maybe I just missed that on my TV. I am connected to the host with the IPv4 + port method, so XXX.XXX.XX.XXX:XXXX. Is there another/better way?

Does your ISP use CGNAT?

I have tested this not long ago to confirm that I am not on CGNAT, and did once more right now. The steps according to that comment was to check my IP on http://ip.altibox.no/ and https://www.whatismyip.com/ - if they were the same then you supposedly were not on CGNAT with my provider. I have no way to verify if those steps are accurate, if not, is there a different way? Edit: I also updated my bios right now to enable Resizable BAR, went from a motherboard release date (2020) BIOS to one from late 2024. I guess I could try updating everything possible to see if that's the issue. The server is still on 10.10.5, but I'm not sure how to update Jellyfin without re-installing from scratch? Edit 2: I have updated everything I can except for opening ports on my router, is that a required step? My phone disconnected after ~7 minutes, prior to 10 minutes. I know that it didn't stutter up until ~7 minutes this time as I had a timer running on my PC and compared. Went away from my PC and phone for a brief moment as everything was running smooth, returned to my phone disconnected.

To check for CGNAT, you need to use EITHER of those websites, make note of the IP. Then go into your ROUTER and check what IT reports for your public IP. If both are the same, you are not behind CGNAT. If they do NOT match you are behind CGNAT.

Yes, I'm sorry for not specifying, that first address is specifically for my ISP AFAIK, I guess it might work for anyone, but it's mainly for use by my ISP's customers. I cannot log into my router locally, only via their website, and several people claimed that address was to test the customer IP address. I could try calling my ISP on Monday, though I doubt I am on CGNAT based on several forum posts on closed community forums claiming those steps were the correct way to test. Edit: I am able to open ports on my router via my ISP's website, and I did open the jellyfin port prior to my previous comment (no lag, disconnect between 7-10 minutes).

Strange that you were able to connect at all without port forwarding. Which is why I started asking about CGNAT. It could be port publishing (Automatic port mapping in Jellyfin aka uPnP). Most routers timeout uPnP after a set amount of time, but that is usually like 60 minutes which is why I didn't suspect that initially.

My kids were able to watch a movie one day, the next day the movie just buffered constantly. Tested on my phone now, and it didn't load the video at all. Used the "back" button, tried to watch again, and the overview listed two devices streaming at first. The host device still lists my phone as actively watching, despite listing it being disconnected in "activities". Before I refreshed the device, it had two listings of the phone being connected, and only one listing of my phone disconnecting. I'm suspecting that the first connection is the one listed under "active devices". Screenshot: https://i.imgur.com/ZfJL3mQ.png I am suspecting that I need to buy a new router, I can't imagine that it's my PC, it might be the TV and my phone is pretty old (and it's a Huawei). Have you ever seen the TV's or phones (streaming devices) being the main issue? |
