I have been watching some videos on how to properly name the media I see some people have made a folder with the name of the film and year date of the film and then placed the mkv file inside the folder, and they have named the mkv the same as the folder name, What is the purpose of making the folder when just having the mkv file works?

It's an organizational preference. I find it less cluttering since I store media images and external subtitles next to the media.

Also, there are some features, like multiple versions, that will not work if it's not in a folder structure: https://jellyfin.org/docs/general/server...e-versions

    Thanks for clearing that up.

I better make folders then, though I don't have the the thumbnails/icons stored in the movie directory as it's on a NAS and Jellyfin is installed on my laptop.

It might come in use in the future.
