    Hi,

First post and all that. Really happy JellyFin user. I have been ruminating about backups. I have a process that backs up the config for Jellyfin and other containers nightly. However the size of the media content is now measured at over 30TB.

To back it up would be expensive when you consider that 95% of the stuff I have can be reacquired from the "usual" places with minimal difficulty and even if not, not a major issue if I cant. I am kind of torn because its good practice but the cost to setup even an onsite backup outside the server is going to be several hundred £.

Do other people backup their media?

My Jellyfin server has 90TB of storage space, 75TB used. I do regularly back up all my media to 3 other smaller servers (40TB + 40TB + 30TB) using freefilesync. These servers are then shut down to preserve the hard drives. The amount of time and effort it would take to recover all my data and re-configure it would be enormous.

It's not possible to further compress media files, so if you want to create a conventional backup of your content, you need to store 30TB.
Therefore I would recommend RAID-4 based solutions like SnapRaid or UnRaid for media files. You can use multiple disks with different sizes for content storage and need only the size of the biggest disk to backup your media.
For example, I use SnapRaid and have 3 media disks (18TB, 12TB, 12TB). My backup (parity) disk has 18TB and all media files are backuped and regularily checked for integrity. I will lose no data if one disk crashes and can even restore erroneously deleted files until the next parity sync.
