Hello everyone,
i face an issue with my Jellyfin server. Am running a trueNAS scale system (version 25.04 fangtooth)
my system is in my signature
all my media files are re-encoded to either AV1 (for the new ones) or H264, bitrate is max 3000 and resolution is either 720p or 1080p. Everything is on Direct Play since my firetv stick is supporting Native AV1 play.
am running the latest version of jellyfin server 10.11.1 and on android tv version 0.18 (firestick tv 4k gen2 and cube), Exoplayer is the default option for playing the media (i tried changing it to web but same)
when i play any media from home, i get perfect playback. i never had an issue or something.
now that am traveling and i take the firestick with me, i try to access the server remotely by using tailscale as an easy solution. so i run tailscale on both my server and firetv stick
i forgot to mention that i have Unifi router and i have 2 ISP (Otenet and starlink) on load balancing profile, but i set routing rules to use only one ISP connection for my NAS
i have tried swapping to either of them and i get the same problems. Ote has 50mbps down and 5mbps up and starlink has 250mbps down and 20 up (also high latency)
Media is playing after buffering a while (on remote) and after 30seconds it stops and buffers again, then continues for some seconds then buffers again. It is doing this and making the movie unwatchable.
i also dont see the bar in the player buffering ahead of the movie (like youtube does) and on my router i check and the upload is not used fully, so it means that i have available speed which is not used.
how can i solve this issue? i have tried several things and nothing is working
am thinking of going cloudflare + caddy or ngnix solution to check if the problem is tailscale
what are your thoughts about it?
