    The SOC looks like it is probably a MTK5890. The codec support includes HEVC and VP9, but I can't find documentation for what levels and profiles it supports. Have you tried updating the TV's firmware? Is it running the latest version of Android TV possible for that TV. Trying to rule out variables, because its starting to look like that thornbill is right. There's possibly an issue with codec support from the SOC. In the ffmpeg logs, what is Jellyfin transcoding to? I would think that if it is converting to lower res H264 it would display that.

    I'm necroing a very old post here, but I ran into this issue and lowering the bitrate to force a transcode fixed it. If I had to guess, it might be an HDR issue.

    Bug: Video is just 'black'. No audio, not actually playing. Serverside logs say playback started and say it stopped playback at 0 ms when going back. No client errors or anything visible.

    Device:
    * Raspberry Pi 4
    * Konstakang LineageOS 23.0 Android TV (Android 16) (with full proprietary GPU drivers)
    * Jellyfin Android TV 0.19.5.

    The Android TV app is limited so much I can't see the Codec request or otherwise debug at all. However, per this thread, setting a bitrate below native forces a transcode and it immediately works.
