I generate lot of raw video and store it on my jellyfin server. I'd like to be able to watch/stream all of my raw content based on an include / exclude list of some sort (some clips get duplicated, don't fit the overall theme, etc). I've been using Jellyfin for several years but have not been able to find a way to do this. There must be a way to ignore some files in a folder without moving the actual files around and creating duplicates of the ones I want to show right?

I've done lots of searching but no luck so I joined up to ask:

How can I flag just some files in a folder so they are not added to the library?

    Thanks!

What OS is the server running? If Linux, trying add a dot at the beginning of the file name to make it hidden.
    Jellyfin 10.10.7 (Docker)
    Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS w/HWE
    Intel i3 12100
    Intel Arc A380
    OS drive - SK Hynix P41 1TB

    Good Idea!

While I wish it was a linux server, I'm hosting on Windows 10. Not sure I'd want to hide all the files anyway.

My use case for this is dash cam, driving, or motorcycling first person footage. I'd like to be able start a stream like virtual channel that would play this raw footage back on a spare screen or TV while I'm working, cleaning, etc. A lot of this footage will never get edited into nice "home movies" that I move to a dedicated library but the option to stream it at will would give me a lot of enjoyment (maybe even encourage more proper editing). Ideally I could just add a few of my camera directory's to a library, maintain an exclude list for that library, then I would just play the libarary on shuffle, likely via home automation.

    Thanks!

So you want to exclude folders when you shuffle? AFAIK, that isn't possible without entirely ignoring the files and not adding them to the library. You would have to put them in a separate library?

    Not exclude folders, exclude files.

Maybe I could make a "Cameras" library as step 1 adding all the relevant folders.

Step 2 make a playlist of just the ones worth including.

Then play just the playlist on shuffle?

I think I may try this if there is no other functionality to accomplish this in Jellyfin.

EDIT: Oh, and I'd like to playback without audio... maybe I need to write a separate mini app or script for this project after all...
