On windows using JFMP the only way to get it to transcode to 2 channel is to lower the bitrate even if it's already Direct Streaming.

Same goes for the Web player on a android phone. I can't use the web player on android as it drops frames. So I have to use the integrated player, and I never know with that player if it's transcoding to 2 channels as it just reads transcoding.

JMP should be downmixing internally to match your audio output.

So are you saying when it's Direct Streaming it won't say 2 channel like in the second picture.

I'll get back to you when I get home. Everything direct plays for me and I haven't noticed any audio issues on my PC's 2 channel setup.

In JMP, go to Settings > Client Settings, then set the Channels to Stereo.

On the web client, from the home screen, select your user profile in the top-right corner. Choose Playback, then set the Maximum Allowed Audio Channels to Stereo.

And by doing this in JMP will it actually say it's using 2 channels in the info? As that's what I have already done in the client settings.

For my Android phone I can only use the integrated player not the web player.

I configured the audio to stereo, and only stereo sound was played through my 5.1 system. The following was displayed in JMP:

I can't get JMP to direct stream.  Only direct play and transcode.  For transcoding, it does show the audio channels for the transcode.

Yes same whenever it transcodes it will show 2 channel in the transcoding info. But if it's Direct Playing or Direct Streaming it doesn't show 2 channel in the info.

Would I be right in saying the media player is actually doing the down mixing to 2 channel without Jellyfin knowing about it?
