I'm not able to watch recordings which are in progress for various clients (Chrome, Firefox, Mac OS Jellyfin Player). As soon as I stop the recording and play the same file it works fine. The response when playing a recording which is in progress:

There's not much in the jellyfin logs when the playback fails. Even with debug turned on. It simply triggers the probe command:

One of the big differences Im seeing is "Type". Its "Recording" while its in recording and changes to Movie/Default when done. Next to that, the type of the MediaSource in the first JSON is "Placeholder", while its "Video" in the second which does play correctly. MediaStreams is completely empty in the first JSON.

Any idea why its impossible to play recordings in progress?

Yes, I was going to report this as a bug because it used to work but somehow I feel that reporting bugs to jellyfin is pointless. The record series button is broken again. (Sigh)

Reporting bugs is not pointless if it is reproducible. Super weird edge cases or unique setups that the triage and dev teams can't replicate make it hard to fix those issues. Clear reproduction steps make it super easy to troubleshoot and fix.

Regarding OPs question, how are you even playing a recording in progress? I just gave it a try and I can watch the channel while it is recording, but I don't see a recording-in-progress to play. Only when the recording is done do I see the recording.

As soon as I refresh the recording folder or wait for the auto refresh (5min or so), it appears in my Recordings.
