Ok. I have kind of just accepted that automatic scraping just don't work. It hasn't run automatically for me for months now. I don't know why. But I have just had to come to accept that I need to do the searching and identifying manually.
But now I have come to a new problem.
I already had Story of Ricky in the library. I now added another movie by the same director, The Seventh Curse. I click the directors name there and I expected to see both films (I mean, why shouldn't I?) But no. I only got The Seventh Curse there.
I thought, that's odd. So I look at the item for Story of Ricky. I notice that there's a slightly different spelling but the same portrait photo. That's not unusual on these old-ish asian films. But just to be sure. I double checked. Yes. According to imdb. It should be the same guy who directed both films. I checked the spelling. I see that the spelling on Story of Ricky differs from the accepted canonized spelling. So I went into the metadata. I removed the listing for director and added the name Ngai Choi Lam that I see on imdb. I click save. Aaand... peuff... Jellyfin deleted that row.
So, I think. Maybe I forgot to actually click save. Though now, not even the wrongly spelled name is listed for Story of Ricky. It's now director-less. So I go back into the metadata. I re-add the director with the correct spelling. Now there's an anonymous listing there. No image. Ok, So I click the three dots on the portrait. I select "Identify". I search for Ngai Choi Lam. The guy shows up as an option. I choose him. I let Jellyfin load everything. Aaaaand... peuff... Story of Ricky is now director-less once again.
Why... WHY?! Why must I fight tooth and nail over every single thing when it comes to this library-scraper thing?!?!?!
If it indeed is user error. Then please enlighten me where I went so massively wrong. What is the intended workflow to correct a director on a movie?
I am about to add a third movie of his to the library as well. Am I to expect to have the scraper find a THIRD avatar of this director?
Why can't jellyfin just do what it is told???
