Jellyfin server: 10.10.7
Windows 11 Installer
Samsung Monitor LS32A800NMWXXL with HDR
Intel Core i5, 13600K, Raptor Lake
32 GB DDR5 RAM, 6000MHz
Crucial T500 2TB Gen 4 NVMe M.2 SSD
There are no playback issues on the PC: Samsung does not support Dolby Vision so that is that.
The problem occurs when I am streaming from the PC to my LG TV which supports Dolby Vision playback.
The latest Jellyfin client is running on LG 55-inch TV 55QNED88T with WebOS 23.20.51.
The TV is hooked to Denon AVR-X2600H through the HDMI eARC port for audio.
Each time I try to play an MKV file with Dolby Vision, profile 8.1 (I have not run tests with other DoVi formats), the playback triggers 'Dolby Vision' on the TV exactly as it should. However, the playback freezes after about ten to fifteen seconds. If I skip back or forward in the video, it'll play fine for another ten-odd seconds before freezing again.
Since LG apparently supports only MP4 playback, I encoded a Dolby Vision film in the MP4 container. The file froze after ten-odd seconds exactly as the MKV had.
The subtitles are turned off in all the aforementioned cases.
There is no problem whatsoever in watching HDR10/HDR10+ movies with the MKV container. They trigger HDR on the TV exactly as they should, and the playback is smooth and judder-free.
There are no audio issues: I have a 7.1 speaker setup--not Atmos--hooked to the Denon AVR and 5.1 and 7.1 audio playback works flawlessly.
[Not sure if this is relevant, but an interesting detail nonetheless: I had first installed the Plex server on the PC and its client on the TV. However, Plex never triggered 'Dolby Vision' on my TV and played back DoVi MKV files as only HDR content. The playback in HDR mode, though, was smooth. In fact, that was why I moved over to Jellyfin, because Plex did not trigger Dolby Vision on my TV while playing my MKV files with DV Profile 8.1.]
I had searched the forum for Dolby Vision playback issues and found quite a few threads but could not find one that might have a solution to the problem I have run into. If I have missed a thread, I would be grateful for a link.
Thank you!
