When I had the Jellyfin server installed on my desktop everything loaded instantly, I click on the movies folder and it's instantly shows all the artwork etc..

I have now put the Jellyfin server on my laptop and now it takes 2 or 3 seconds to load the movie folder, it's not a big problem as it's 2 or 3 seconds.

I'm wondering if there is a setting I can tweak to get it to load instant. The laptop is running 20gb ram and it's a Tigerlake CPU.  I also wonder if it's the M.2 SSD that's not up to scratch even though everything loads fast on on the laptop.

It's slow to load the artwork on all my other devices.

Films start straight away but they are on a NAS.

So is there any suggestions on why artwork/posters doesn't load fast, it's like it's not caching the thumbnails so it's loading like it's all new.

This could be an issue anywhere from network speed to cache (as you've mentioned) to ill-configured reverse proxy. Your question is too broad to provide more detail. Could you offer more information about your setup? Bare metal? Host OS? Server version? Clients where you experience the issue?

Best practice: run on the most capable hardware, always hard-wire the server (i.e., your laptop in this instance -- even WiFi could be the problem), and use an SSD to serve cache, even if you have to map the volume separately.

Server laptop is wired connection, it's running windows 11, it's slow on the laptop and all clients android phone and on firestick, Firestick is a wired connection.

Everything is running of the laptop so I'm just using the NAS to keep the movies on there.

Plays films straight away no problems with transcoding when needed but most of the time it's direct play.

    Intel 6305 (Tigerlake)
    20GB RAM
    120GB M.2 SSD free space 77GB

Library only added 65 films so far.
    Trickplay enabled.

    Only watching at home.

Chrome seems to load it faster while JFMP is a bit slower.

I have added the M.2 SSD specs in the pictures.

Seems the only variable is the laptop? If you were running Linux (docker in particular) I'd tell you to spin up an instance on the desktop and compare, but that's a bit more involved with a bare metal install. I'd say the bottleneck appears to be the laptop, but I'm flummoxed as to where that bottleneck lies (e.g., processor, network I/O).

I'm stuck at would it could be, I am leaning towards it being the M.2 SSD, only because it's only the images that doesn't load fast. Should they load instantly? Once they are in the cache.

I did turn off fast boot in windows and it's noticeable slower, So maybe it's the SSD.

It's not instantaneous because a) cached images are removed periodically and b) cache resides on a different machine. When I use webOS it takes maybe a second for images to load from the blurry placeholders while on Roku it's noticeably faster.

That's good to hear, as it's frustrating lol I didn't know the cache clears periodically.

So on my desktop I have been doing a clean up on my system, using JFMP it now loads alot faster, I would say 2 seconds.

My laptop is still slower nothing has changed.

On my phone (android) it's still the same but I also have findroid installed on my phone never used it but that is very fast at loading the images.

Is 77GB enough space on the SSD for Jellyfin to run smoothly?
