I was searching for an HDD and I found that WD doesn't sell anymore the Helium filled WD120EFBX (out-of stock, no restock date) and only sell the WD120EFGX (Air).

They are both 12TB WD Red Plus drive

I'm concerned about the noise level of this new drive model. The specification for the noise level says:
    - WD120EFBX (Helium) idle 20dBA, seeking 29dBA
    - WD120EFGX (Air) idle 34db, seeking 39db.

Does anyone here already bought and has some experience with the new WD120EFGX and can tell me how noisy are these disks? Are they terrible loud?

As my "NAS" (an intel nuc with an usb 3.5" drive with idle 24dBA, seeking 28dBA) is in the room where I sleep, a drive with seeking 39db could be acceptable at a distance of 2 meter or could be annoying as the ticking of a clock?
As reference at the moment with the drive I currently have (24dBA/28dBA) I cannot hear any seek noise when using Jellyfin and directly accessing a file in the disk.

    thanks for any advice

Most of the drives in my server are WD Red and I don't hear any noise whatsoever. In fact, I can't really even hear the fan and that's real quiet. I do not, however, sleep in the same room. So I can vouch for the fact that they're still very quiet, but I can't say whether or not the drives are sleepy-sleep quiet.

    Thanks for the answer.

"WD Red" include really many, many different products.

There are 3 different line up of "WD Red"
    - WD Red
    - WD Red Plus
    - WD Red Pro

and each of these include different SKUs with different rpm (5400 vs 7200), different gas (Helium vs Air) and as consequence different noise level.
12TB and up drives with Air seems to be more noisy as they also are 7200rpm.

What kind of WD Red do you have?

As I said I have a WD Red Plus with idle 24dBA, seeking 28dBA noise levels and I can hear it only when I copy a lot of data.
My problem is that the new WD Red Plus 12TB Air drive (WD120EFGX) has idle 34dbA, seeking 39dbA noise level.

A differnce of 11 dbA on a logaritmic scale.

    So my question:
does anybody already bought the WD120EFGX or has someone a drive with seeking 39dbA noise level that could tell how noisy they are or could tell If I can use it in a bedroom.
