Hello,
It's my understanding that Auto encoding preset prioritizes speed. I have a few questions to help me understand it better.
Do we know specifically which preset is defaulted to?
Do these only apply to software encoding? If not, how do these settings work in the context of hardware acceleration with VideoToolbox?
Since there's no real "gpu usage" indicator on Mac when using the hardware acceleration engines, its hard to know how much is being taxed or used.. so I've been unable to tell (from a system load standpoint) how/if these presets are affecting the media engines.
I had an instance where this was left on Auto, and the resulting HEVC transcode looked considerably worse than the H264 transcoded stream.. so that led me down this path of questions.. as I want to tweak the settings for best quality when transcoding.
Thanks!
