    Updated file detection

How does Jellyfin determine if there has been an addition/update?

When syncing my Jellyfin library (from Kodi via JellyfinForKodi) there are often thousands of updates every day when there should be no more than 5-6. The cause seems to be that something has changed in the library causing Kodi to think there have been changes. What criteria does Jellyfin use that would cause it to register a change in the library? Is it the last file update, access, metadata changes? What would cause otherwise unchanged files to make Jellyfin think there is something new?
