In 10.8.x and earlier, the playlist scanning code requires absolute paths, not relative paths. So if your music library is mounted on your jellyfin server with a playlists directory like so:
I believe this was (finally) changed for 10.9, but I don't remember for sure. Also have no idea why doing a manual refresh would have worked, as I thought that used the same underlying code.
