Just wanted to add my 2 cents that the same thing happened to me, since updating to 10.9.0 and now 10.9.1 I can't update the metadata. I usually have to change the country for the title's language and descriptions but whatever I do it stays in English.

oddly enough, when a movie doesn't have a tagline and I do "look for missing metadata" once the good language has been set in that movie, the tagline gets added in the correct language, but the description stays the same even if I then do "replace all metadata".

If I manually delete the plot line in the .nfo then do "look for missing metadata" it downloads it again in the wrong language. maybe a problem with the metadata plugin.

Whatever the language of the synopsis is once a movie is added to jellyfin it cannot be changed again.
-- edit 4 --
everything is working normally as of v10.9.3
-- edit 5 --
no it wasn't i had to revert back to 10.8.13 for everything to work again
