You probably have HARDWARE ACCELERATION disabled. Selecting "None" from Dashboard > Playback just means that it will use the CPU for all transcoding.
On your iPhone if you have the Internet quality settings set to auto, it is probably erroneously determining your network speed is lower than it actually is. You can try manually setting a higher max Internet quality setting.
