I would try blacklisting too. Just add a tag like "NotForKids" to each movie or show, then blacklist that tag for each kid user account. They will not appear or work for those accounts.
Just keep in mind tags now apply recursively. Before v10.9, adding a tag would only apply it onto the thing you edited only. Now, tagging a show for example results with all of its seasons and episodes receiving the tag too.
