The only time that selecting a subtitle forces immediate transcoding without dropping the bitrate to very low is enabling a VODSUB. That is for the same type of subtitle track (Only the Song Lyrics and Sign subtitles), I removed the 'Forced' Flag from one, while maintaining the 'Default' Flag, but it still gave me the "Unable to load Subtitle" along with a new error "Encountered Player error, will Re-try" which then goes back to try the subtitle again, with the same error. Idk why it does this behavior, but am willing and happy to be told what I've done wrong, as I've obviously done something lol.
Edit: I've attached the log of the successful VODSUB transcode, where it automatically did it when selecting the subtitle to play.

Edit 2: Even more odd, when trying a different release (Still PGS Subs, and still just taken directly from the blu ray) but from a different company, they work immediately, without the need to transcode at all. Its listed as Direct Play from the Dashboard,
