Hello,
I am wondering how the community is getting PGS subtitles direct playing on their setups? I start transcoding because "The subtitle codec is not supported" whenever I enable subtitles. I understand from my searches that this experience is heavily client dependent. I've attempted this with both my Samsung (Tizen) TV app as well as casting with Jellyfin Android to a Chromecast Ultra (non-Android TV). I get a similar experience with either client. I have tried the "Experimental PGS subtitle rendering" in the Subtitles setting but have not been successful - either no subtitles appear or I still am transcoding the media due to subtitle codec.
I'm wondering if anyone has managed to get this working with these clients? If so, what is your configuration? If not, which clients do you recommend? I noticed that the new Android TV v0.18.0 has support of PGS. Does that mean any Android TV devices like the cheap ONN box should direct play these subtitles?
Any help would be appreciated. I would prefer not going through the hassle of converting subtitles into a different format unless absolutely necessary.
