Honestly, I just read Wireguard's official quick start docs. I'm also a professional Linux sys admin so I'm not a good gauge for how easy something is.
Using tailscale for remote access is a perfectly valid use case. It just needs to be configured so that only traffic to and from clients is tunneled and not ALL traffic.
