Immediate update: I think the explanation behind my issues here might be that initial Jellyfin configuration needs to be done ON the host itself. I created a localhost link with the command
[EDIT: this wasn't it. I feel like this shouldn't have been necessary in hindsight, but I'm still unable to configure jellyfin to be reachable remotely.]
ssh -L 8096:localhost:8096 user@nas (where user@nas is my username @ my NAS's IP address) and now I can reach the initial configuration page on my main computer.[EDIT: this wasn't it.
