I ended up purchasing this and I have a Roku stick connected to it, with the HDMI out going to the TV and optical audio going to a Sabaj A4 amp. Streaming services such as Netflix or Hulu have no issues with audio and certain shows streamed from Jellyfin are fine but other shows play only this horrible digital static audio (video is fine). I was able to at least find a common thread which was files with Dolby Digital Plus audio played fine while Dolby Digital produced the static.
I realize my issue is likely that the extractor can't handle something about the codec so I'm not sure if there is a resolution there but I wanted to know if it's at least possible to always have Jellyfin transcode Dolby Digital audio to Dolby Digital Plus?
I might be a corner case with this device but I'm hoping someone might know something!
Unfortunately, the client requests the codecs based on the format support of the device that the client is running on. Since the client is, thus, not aware of the extractor, it won't be able to request only audio that the extractor can handle. There isn't really a way to work around this. The extractor probably just needs to be replaced with one more compatible with assorted audio streams.
