Performance issue with subtitles

I'm getting performance issues when using subs on latest version of jellyfin

Is "client for Mac" referring to Jellyfin Media Player? The full desktop app? If so, JMP has a much more robust playback engine and can direct play pretty much all subtitle types that I am aware of.

Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS w/HWE
Intel i3 12100
Intel Arc A380
OS drive - SK Hynix P41 1TB
Storage
4x WD Red Pro 6TB CMR in RAIDZ1
