    Hi all,

I am running Jellyfin server 10.10.7 on my M4 Mac Mini and have discovered what looks like a bug (maybe limitation?). Below is my set up:

M4 Mac Mini running macOS 15.4.1
    24GB RAM
    10GB Ethernet
Media Library on QNAP NAS accessed via SMB
M4 Mac accessing QNAP share via a 2.5GB ethernet connection (not WiFi)

When I add new media to the library, it never gets automatically detected until I manually run a scan. Thinking it may be a bug in Jellyfin server, I then tried the following:

Using a test Windows PC that my friend kindly loaned me for this test, I installed Jellyfin server and configured it exactly how it is configured on my Mac and connected to my home network using ethernet (I think it was only a gigabit connection). When I then added new media to the QNAP share...lo and behold...it was almost immediately automatically detected and I could see it in the media library on the Jellyfin Windows server (running Windows 11) so that ruled out a network issue as the Windows PC only had a gigabit ethernet connection and it worked fine.

I then decided to try connecting an external 1TB SSD to my Mac after formatting in APFS, created a test media library and added this test library to the Mac's Jellyfin server and gave only my account access to it for testing. Very interestingly, as soon as I added media to that empty library, within seconds, it was visible in the Mac's Jellyfin server library without having to manually scan!

This leads me to thinking - is this due to the share not being in APFS file format (I believe that the share is currently in EXT4 format) or some other issue? My next test would be to try accessing that share via AFP (Apple Filing Protocol) and see if that makes any difference.
