iOs app not connecting to local server

I had a similar issue I was able to get it to connect by changing the permissions for local network
go to Privacy and Security > Local Network > Switch on allow for jellyfin

Interestingly when loading the app for the first time it didn't prompt for permission to access local network perhaps it should?
