I’ve been using Jellyfin for a few weeks using my MacBook Pro (2021, OS 15.4.1, Jellyfin 10.10.7) as a server and Synology NAS for the media drives and it’s been working ok but I came across an old Mac Mini (2012 running 10.13) and I’m having the same problem plus I am unable to login or create a new account on the new Mac. I’d prefer to use the same account and settings and notices in the walkthrough guide it says something like, “it was as easy as plugging the raid drives into the new Mac and everything just worked”. This has been pretty far from the case for me.

First, I cannot find any Jellyfin related folders on my MacBook Pro for Application Support, .config or .local. I unhid hidden folders, searched using terminal and the command+shift+g in finder and just done multiple searches and dug through folders wherever I could. Since Jellyfin has been running from this computer for weeks, I’ll assume there are these folders somewhere but no luck for me.

Second, the Mac Mini is basically clear as I have deleted old files and it was only ever used as a browser and I setup a clean user specifically for it to run as my Jellyfin server. I had to use an archived 10.4.2 version for it to be compatible and I understand I’m downgrading hardware but I’m hoping once it works, it will be fine since I mainly just use it for music and some shows and movies that are no more than HD. I was easily able to find the .config and .local folders on this computer but have nothing from the other computer to copy over. When I go through the Jellyfin setup, I was able to define the media types and link to folders in the NAS but then I get to the login screen and when I use my credentials, it says it cannot connect and I have no option to create a new user. I assume it’s because my network recognizes I have an existing setup and the MacBook Pro is off so it is unable to connect to it. I don’t want to turn the MacBook on since the whole point is I want the Mini to be the new server and not sure how to proceed. So now I’m stuck and have no idea what to do but hope someone here has reveal a simple solution. Thanks for any help with this!
