SOLVED: jellyfin does not have permission to access the drive my movies are stored on?

i figured it out!!!!

1. created new admin account by going to the server url from my phone instead of my laptop
   
2. used those credentials to log into jellyfin from my laptop
   
3. went through server setup again
   
4. turned off autorefresh for movie and tv libraries
   
5. SUCCESS!!!!!
   

i'm kind of embarrassed that (1) the fix ended up being so simple and (2) i didn't think to try this earlier... but oh well. live and learn, i guess.
