I've been a Kodi user for more than a decade, but considering trying out Jellyfin as a supplemental solution for transcoding/accessing video files remotely.
However, my current storage (Synology DS1621+) doesn't support hardware decoding and 4K files get too hard to chew, so I'm considering an alternative option, which would be installing Jellyfin on a smaller and newer SSD NAS (probably running TrueNAS) with transcoding capability, but just letting it access the files in my library on the Synology via 1Gbit LAN, and transcoding and streaming that to a remote client ...
Does anyone have a similar setup, and are there any catches/challenges to something like this?
Thanx in advance :-)
