I just wanted to add that I'm experiencing something similar. I was on 10.9.11, upgraded to 10.10.7, and then 10.11.0. I did not think to check the playlist in 10.10.7 since I was just passing through. In 10.11.0 no playlists were visible at first. I added a new playlist and they all showed up, but my similar "long playlist of random songs" playlist was empty. It listed all the genres and the duration, but had no items in it. I tried adding a long to the playlist and now that's the ONLY song in the playlist.
I tried updating the playlist.xml files, including creating a new playlist or copying over an existing one, but those files seem to have no impact on what appears.
I have an offline copy of this playlist in Finamp so I'm not immediately affected, but if I can't resolve this soon I'm going to have to roll back.
Also, if anyone can clarify how (if at all) the playlist.xml files are used I'd really appreciate it.
OK, like, two minutes after posting this, I went back to the playlist page and tried just hitting play. After thinking about it for a while, suddenly all the songs showed up and everything appears to be OK.
