Hi everyone,
I wanted to share my experience with the 10.11.x update in case others are running into the same problems.
After updating, I encountered:
- Crashes while scanning libraries
- Very slow / stuck scans and heavy performance issues
- Most importantly:
The “Home Videos” library type is broken:
- It takes an infinite time to load, or doesn’t load at all
- Items are not displaying correctly
- No shuffle / play-all option anymore
- Subfolders are not shown when nested folders are used
- Tried the suggested workaround using the Music Videos library type → doesn’t work either
I tried multiple times (fresh setup, clearing data, rescans, etc.), but in the end, the only solution was to completely remove 10.11.x and downgrade back to 10.10.7, which immediately restored full functionality.
Why Home Videos were so useful:
I know Jellyfin is mainly intended for metadata-driven content like movies or TV shows, but the Home Videos library type is extremely useful for organizing personal video collections without any metadata. By combining it with ScreenGrabber for video files and using folder.jpg or fanart.jpg for folders (excluding images), everything looks really nice and works perfectly. It was a simple, clean way to organize personal videos — unfortunately, with the latest 10.11.x release, this is no longer usable.
If you rely on Home Videos or encounter crashes during library scans in 10.11.x, downgrading to 10.10.7 is currently the only reliable solution.
