This won't necessarily provide an answer, but I started getting this error recently as well with the metadata path. I set up Jellyfin a month ago, tested a file with the desired metadata file path, and it worked. However, I started getting errors in the Logs a week ago and when I went back to remove and re-add the metadata file path, I received this exact error.
My best hunch is that it's a permissions issue, because I was previously getting a "System.IO.IOException: Read-only file system : '/mnt/<filepath>/'" error in the Logs when the issue started a week ago.
Again, this doesn't necessarily answer your question, but you're at least not alone in seeing this one at the moment. I'm using Linux Mint and Jellyfin 10.11.5.
