    Hi Jellyfin forum,

I've been using Jellyfin 10.8.10 since its release. I am currently at the stage where I am planning on building a new server, but could use some guidance.
My current setup was Frankenstein'ed together using whatever was available to me at the time, so it's not an ideal setup.
I want to start fresh - but could use some help.

    Here is my current setup:
    • Dell Optiplex 7050 (i7-7700) with Nvidia T600 for HWA transcoding (Runs Jellyfin + Caddy [duckdns])
    • Mac Mini (i7) connected to a OWC Thunderbay 8 (128TB Raid 10 via SoftRaid [64TB usable], connected over Thunderbolt)

The Mac is my file server, and I use it to store my Jellyfin media. The Jellyfin server accesses the file server over my local network. I don't have any performance issues - streams are pretty instantaneous. Streaming over internet is a hit or a miss, depending on file size.

I want to build a new server that runs the Jellyfin instance and hosts the media at the same time.
I've been wanting to pickup a new 12/13th gen Intel CPU with a UHD 770 iGPU and pickup a A380 sometime in the future if AV1 gets supported.
But where I am stuck is figuring out what OS I should go with. I am very comfortable with Windows and macOS, but Linux is a new territory for me.

I have a lot of folks recommending TrueNAS, saying I can use it to host my files using ZFS, run Jellyfin and reverse proxy over the internet.
But a bit intimidated by the approach, and if it's even worth the trouble. I was going to put a Windows build together with a 13700k and a board with onboard Thunderbolt - but people tell me that Windows Storage Spaces is terrible for Raid.

What's the best approach here? Is there a Linux option that I can use that would serve me better? Or would I be better off going with the Windows route?

    Thank you!
