4k content on android tv

hello fello jelly's


i found out that a few 4k movies wont show image on android tv it does play sound

jellyfin does say that it is a "direct stream so no encoding and decoding is happening

the same movie does load on my phone and another workstation

but wont show image on my tv 


any ideas?

Can you share the media info for this video? Is it Dolby Vision? If so, which DV profile?

it is "dolby vision' and suposed to be 7.6 says handbrake


is this an jellyfin limitation or hardware ?

Its an issue with exoplayer, the playback engine that is built into Android that Jellyfin uses. It is supposed to fallback to DV8.1 or HDR10, but rarely does.

AFAIK, there is no mobile or streaming device that supports DV7.6. It has to be software decoded, which most mobile/streaming devices can't really handle well.

It is possible to convert DV7.6 to HDR10, which exoplayer WILL play without issue (I wrote a guide in the walkthrough section).
