User has a new TV (android tv client) and now can't watch 4k files, no error. 1080p works fine. Server shows direct play and time stamp progresses but end user only has black screen. Files are h.265.

Roku tv in his house can play the same file perfectly (but transcodes). Not sure where to begin here. My upload is fine and he's hardwired with good download. Ideas?

I am assuming it is an HDR video. Can you show us the full media info for this video? The TV is probably mistakenly determining it can direct play instead of telling the server to transcode.

You're right, it is HDR. HEVC 10 bit 4k AAC. That also sounds reasonable! Is there anyway to have this TV force a transcode?

this feature is "not yet implemented" into the current android tv client, but, if you're ready to compile your own version then you can compile from this PR/branch from t0mas https://github.com/jellyfin/jellyfin-and.../pull/3110

it will allow what you need, disable 4K playback thus forcing 1080p scaling

It also depends on what kind of HDR.
