Access jellyfin on lan from guest network

Not remote access from anywhere, but just guest network

    Hi,
Installed jellyfin the other day and I can successfully connect to it from my laptop while on the lan. However, my smarttv is on the guest network and cannot access it (neither can my browser when I connect my laptop to the guest network for testing). I have tried port forwarding on my router, but with no luck. Any ideas?

A guest network is essentially an entirely different network with a different subnet, correct? The entire point of a guest network is that it can't mingle with devices on your private network.

Many guest networks have you on your own, isolated segment that only routes to the internet, no access to local networks and some even block you from accessing other devices on the guest network. Depending on the router make and model, there may be options to adjust this security. Check the manual on your router to see the options.

You will need firewall rules that allow traffic from either the guest subnet, or your guest host specifically to be permitted to access your Jellyfin server. The firewall rule I used was [if source: 192.168.2.0/24, source port: any, destination 192.168.1.10 (Jellyfin Server), dest port: 8096, then allow traffic]

Another thing to note is that you may have to add a firewall rule into your Jellyfin server that allows traffic coming in. I have my Jellyfin server running on a Windows machine right now and so I had to add a firewall allowing traffic in from my LAN subnets to port 8096.

If you could provide info about your Jellyfin server, and what kind of router you are using it would be easier to assist with forming those rules.

    ---- Edit ----
I just saw the image that you posted. That looks like it possibly would work for you if you tweak some stuff. The forwarding rule you set up requires traffic to be destined to the router itself so you would need to point your client to the guest lan gateway port 8096 and the router would then forward to the correct server. Past that just make sure the server itself will accept incoming connections.

Thanks everyone. Turns out a traffic rule (and not port forward) did the trick.
